Teachers, students and parents are invited to register to take part in this online global maths event held across 48 hours on Wednesday 5th May, 2021. Registration is open now.

History of World Maths Day

World Maths Day was created in 2007 by 3P Learning, an Australian digital learning resource developer. On May 5th 2007, the first World Maths Day was held and almost 300,000 students from 98 different countries participated in online maths games focused on mental maths problems.

In the last 14 years, World Maths Day has grown to include the participation of millions of students from over 240 countries around the world. Recently, the event combined the online maths challenge with a costume competition held via social media, where kids could dress up as famous mathematicians and calculators.

How does it work?

World Maths Day allows students, aged 4 to 18, to test their mathematical skills and compete against their peers from around the world in 20 live one-minute maths challenges. These games are designed to test the mental maths abilities of students in different age groups and the games are divided into 10 levels. The goal is to get as many questions correct as you can within one minute. The winner will be crowned the top “mathlete” while every student who participates gets an award. The top ten students for each age group are also awarded gold medals.

World Maths Day – Guinness World Record

World Maths Day is such a celebrated event that it even holds a world record! World Maths Day was awarded the record for the largest maths competition in 2010 by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The hashtag #WorldMathsDay will be used to celebrate this year to show everyone that children are getting involved in World Maths Day 2021.
