Pipe Cleaner 2D Shapes

Learn the features of common 2D shapes with this hands-on maths activity using pipe cleaners to make each shape.

For this activity:

Draw 2D shape outlines on a paper.
Write the names of each shape on small labels.
Discuss with your child the features of each shape. How many sides (faces) does it have? How many corners (vertices) does it have? What is the name of the shape?
Using pipe cleaners, form the shape to match the outline on the paper.
Which shapes were easy to make? Which shapes were more difficult?
Match the shape name labels to each 2D shape.
For more advanced students, ask them to write the name labels.
