For this activity:

1. Materials: red and pink coloured paper, red paint, scissors and glue.

Fine Motor Valentine’s Name Tracing

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with this fun fine motor skills practice activity using Hershey’s Kisses to trace names or other focus words.

For this activity:

1. Materials: a bag of Hershey’s Kisses chocolates, coloured paper and a black marker.
2. Write your child’s name or focus word in large letters on the coloured paper.
3. Ask your child to carefully place the Hershey’s Kisses chocolates on the lines in order to trace the letters.
4. When they have finished, ask them to count how many chocolates it took to cover their name.

Valentine’s Day Skittles STEM Experiment

Explore the power of dissolving with this simple experiment using Skittles and water. The dye and sugar dissolve making a colourful rainbow!

For this activity:

1. Skittles are full of dye which means the combination of dye and sugar dissolves quickly in water. When warm water is poured over the Skittles, the dye quickly dissolves and starts to absorb into the water, making a colorful rainbow. Shaping the Skittles into a heart shape is also a great way to practise fine motor skills.

Roll and Cover Valentine’s Maths Activity

This Valentine’s Day themed maths activity is a fun and easy way to practise number recognition and simple addition to 12.

For this activity:

1. Materials: 2 dice, coloured paper and markers, Hershey’s Kisses chocolates or other Valentine’s sweets.
2. On the coloured paper draw hearts with the numbers 2 – 12 written inside each one.
3. Roll the two dice and add the numbers together. Find this number on the board and cover with a chocolate or sweet.
4. Continue rolling until all the hearts are covered.
5. If you want to include more maths skills, keep a tally chart of how many rolls it takes to cover all the numbers. They can try and beat their score the next time they play. 

High Frequency Word Valentine’s Matching

Have fun with high frequency words (sight words) this Valentine’s Day with this fun and easy-to-make matching game.

For this activity:

1. Choose the high frequency words (sight words) you would like to focus on.
2. Cut out heart shapes and write the high frequency words in the centre.
3. Cut each heart in half, splitting the word into two parts.
4. Mix up the broken heart pieces and ask your child to match the pieces together to create hearts.
