Top 5 Free Printable Christmas Maths Worksheets:
1. Christmas Addition
Practise three number addition with this Christmas themed worksheet. Children need to first use the information at the top of the worksheet to work out the value of each Christmas picture. For younger children, encourage them to use a number line to help add the three numbers together or use objects that they can physically move together and count.
2. Shape Hunt Christmas Tree
This Christmas shape hunt worksheet focuses on the shape recognition of circles, squares, triangles and rectangles, ovals, hexagons and stars. Children can also practise counting once they have coloured in their tree. Simply follow the colour chart to decorate the shapes, then count how many of each shape and write the answers on the line.
3. Christmas Graphing
Introduce the concept of bar charts or block graphs with this simple Christmas graphing activity. Children count the number of each picture and then colour the corresponding number of squares vertically above the pictures. After the graph is complete, ask comprehension questions, such as “Which picture appears the most?” and “Which picture appears the least?”
4. Decorate your Christmas Tree Addition
Simple addition should be fun and enjoyable. To accompany this Decorate your Christmas Tree worksheet, you can use candy canes as a manipulative to perform the physical addition. Then colour each bauble on the tree the correct colour according to the chart at the bottom. This is a simple, yet fun maths activity which will reinforce one to one correspondence and number recognition. If you have older children, you can encourage them to create a worksheet like this themselves.
5. Candy Cane Estimating
One important early learning goal is to be able to make reasonable estimates. It is important not just to focus on counting, but also to ask children to estimate how many objects they can see and then check by counting them. Children need to be able to see the objects clearly but they must be displayed in a way that it is not easy to count them. Glass jars and candy canes are the perfect tools for this activity – they are easy to jumble together so they are not very easy to distinguish. Children will have to use their estimation skills to decide on a reasonable guess. Perform this activity three times, changing the number of candy canes in the jar each time. Using the Candy Cane Estimating worksheet and note down the estimates and the actual number. For older children, they can try to figure out how close their estimates were to the answers. The number line on the bottom of the worksheet will help with visualizing this. Gold coins in a jar also work well for this activity!
