Interactive Word Making Game

This game helps children learn how to use letters to build words by experimenting with their sounds.

For this activity:

  1. In the beginning stages, start by building CVC (consonant — vowel — consonant) words and later work towards 4 or 5 letter words.
  2. Provide children with 6-8 letters to use and ensure there are at least 2 vowels.
  3. Ask them to make 5 words using these letters. Having the physical letters to move around helps them to connect and blend sounds together.
  4. Write the words on a whiteboard or piece of paper as they discover them.
  5. Once they become familiar with the game, you can change the letters and set a timer challenge – how many words can they make in 3 minutes?
