Phonetic Sound Scavenger Hunt

This fun scavenger hunt focuses on the initial phonetic sound of common words. Children will have fun hunting around the house for items!

For this activity:

  1. Choose an initial sound starting with ‘s’, ‘t’, ‘a’, ‘r’ or ‘c’.
  2. Practise writing this letter with your child until it is recognisable.
  3. Once they are familiar with the letter shape and the sound it makes, have them write the letter on 5 small post-it notes and find objects from around the house that start with that sound.
  4. Extension: write the name of the object(s) they have found and ask your child to circle the initial letter sound.
