For this activity:
- You will need lolly sticks, paint and a marker.
- Paint the lolly sticks and let dry.
- Choose the high frequency words you would like to practise.
- Put two sticks next to each other and carefully write the high frequency word over both sticks using the marker.
- Separate the sticks and muddle them up.
- There are a few different ways to use these:
- You can present either the bottom or top stick to your child and ask them to guess the word. If they can’t guess, see if they can identify each letter and sound it out. Once they know the word, ask them to find the matching lolly stick.
- Play the memory game using the lolly sticks – muddle them up and flip them over. Take turns flipping over 2 sticks to try and find a matching pair. The person with the most pairs at the end is the winner.
