High Frequency Word Fun

High frequency or sight words are the words that appear the most often in written text. They need to be practised frequently. Repetition can be dull, so make it a game to keep it fun and interesting.

For this activity:

Either print high frequency word cards or make index cards with the words using this list.
Spread the cards out on the table.
Review the cards together. Read each word and try to use it in a sentence.
Now say each word out-of-order and challenge your child to find the word as quickly as possible and grab the card.
When they are confident playing the game, use a timer to see how quickly they can pick up the words as you say them.
Challenge them to beat their previous best time.
