To build fluency in letter recognition, children must be able to identify letters sounds out of context and sequence. This letter recognition matching game is a fun, hands-on way to practise letter sounds.
For this activity:
- Focus on the letter sounds your child knows and pick a few they need to learn.
- Use wooden or plastic lowercase letter and trace the letters onto a piece of paper.
- Scatter the letters around the outside of the paper.
- Ask you child to pick up a letter and say the sound it makes. Find the outline of the letter on the paper and match them together.
- As an added bonus, ask your child to say a word that starts with that sound, or make it a scavenger hunt and ask them to find an object around the house that starts with that letter.
