For this activity:
- Print the downloadable tens frame provided.
- Introduce the idea that multiplication relies on equal groups and is represented with a “x” sign.
- Start with an even number of objects and group by 2s. When grouping, arrange the objects in rows and columns so that they are easier to count.
- A sorting tray or a Tens Frame worksheet can be useful when grouping objects.
- Use the Skip Counting worksheet with the highlighted numbers to count the physical objects in pairs.
- Equal groups practice is an easy, visual way of understanding the basics of multiplication.
