Consonant Blends Activity Cards
Consonant blends appear at the beginning of words and consist of 2 consonants whose phonetic sounds blend together to create one sound. Teaching consonant blends can be tricky!

I love to use these Wipe Clean Activity Flash Cards created by Roger Priddy to help with identifying consonant blends.
For this activity:
- Find words which contain consonant blends at the beginning of the word such as “cl”, “dr”, “sp”, “tr” and “br”.
- Cover the blend with a post-it notes and ask your child to identify the letters which make the blend.
- Uncover the blend and write the word on a whiteboard to practise its spelling.
- Depending on the level of your child, try to use the word in a sentence. This can be done orally or in writing.
