Christmas Paper Chains Craft Activity

Making paper chains is a fun way of creating decorations at Christmas, or any other time of year. Cutting the strips of paper uses bilateral hand coordination, meaning both hands are doing different tasks. Gluing the ends together practises hand-eye coordination and concentration.

For this activity:

  1. Cut small strips (approximately 12 cm long) of Christmas wrapping paper or coloured paper.
  2. Stick two ends of the paper strip together using glue.
  3. Thread the next strip through the loop and glue the ends together.
  4. Continue making the paper chain longer.
  5. If you want to incorporate maths into this activity, estimate how many loops you will need to make for the chain to wrap around the Christmas tree. How close was the estimate to the actual number?
