High Frequency Word Detective

Repetition is key when learning high frequency or sight words. This is a fun detective activity that involves reading and writing high frequency words.

For this activity:

  1. Either print high frequency word cards or make index cards with focus words.
  2. Choose 10 word cards and review them together.
  3. Hide the word cards around the house.
  4. On a whiteboard or paper, write the hidden words and challenge children to find the word cards as quickly as possible.
  5. As they find the words cards, they can match them to the whiteboard words.
  6. When they are confident, reverse the game – ask them to choose the word cards to focus on, your child can hide them for you and write them down on the whiteboard.
