For this activity:

  1. Organise objects into rows and columns so that young children can systematically count each item and not lose track of what they have already counted.
  2. A simple, printed tens frame can also help to organise items into boxes. Alternatively, use an ice cube tray or an empty egg carton.
  3. Collect objects from around the house, organise them into rows and columns, then count.
  4. Write the numbers from 1 to 10 on paper. Ask your child to then match the number of objects to the written number.
