Making 10 with Beads

Practise number bonds to 10 with this fun, hands-on activity that encourages children to represent addition using real-life objects.

For this activity:

You will need: 10 beads, pipe cleaner, cue cards
Thread 10 beads onto a pipe cleaner.
Write out possible addition sentences which add to 10 on separate cards.
Ask your child to choose a card and represent that addition sentence by separating the beads on the pipe cleaners.
For more advanced students, let them discover all of the possible ways of adding to 10 and ask them to write the addition sentences on the cue cards as they go.
