We all recognise the impact that early learning has on children later in life. The EYFS Early Learning Goals are a set of standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years of age.
The Early Learning Goals establish expectations for learning and development. The framework provides an important way for teachers to track and assess the progress of children in the early years. It can also reassure parents that their children are developing appropriately and in line with other children of a similar age.
Some new parents may be surprised to learn that their child is being judged on their abilities at such a young age, but the Early Learning Goals framework is essential in identifying and targeting areas for a child’s development. It might help to minimise learning and development issues later in life.
All parents of children under the age of 5 should familiarise themselves with the EYFS Early Learning Goals. Understand how it helps educators find consistency and direction in their classrooms. Most importantly, remember it is just a guideline and not a cause for panic.
