For this activity:
- You will need 10 empty muffin paper cups, plastic numbers or flash cards from 1 – 10, kitchen tongs, a bowl of larger sized cereal such as Cheerios.
- Lay out the muffin cups in a line with the numbers 1 – 10 displayed in order under each cup.
- Firstly, identify the numbers under each muffin cup by name.
- Using the tongs, transfer the correct number of cereal pieces into the muffin cups.
- For an extra challenge, once the muffin cups are filled correctly, try adding 2 muffin cups together using the correct vocabulary: “What does 2 add 5 equal?” Children can use the cereal pieces in the 2 and 5 muffin cups to count altogether to find the answer.
